Cette lampe déroute.
Elle ne ressemble pas à ce que l’on a l’habitude de voir de la manufacture Grandjean-Jourdan pourtant si familière. La signature de Masson est pourtant bien connue, elle est celle d’Émile Masson qui réalisait notamment les silhouettes de personnages en noir sur fond faux-bois. Il sort des sentiers battus avec une lampe dont la forme, l’usage, la technique sont tout à fait inédits. Le système d’éclairage repose sur le principe de diffision de la lumière par le dessus ouvert de cette forme balustre. Il est complété par les petits trous percés sur la panse qui suivent le sujet dessiné à l’engobe orange sur fond crème.

L’énorme Cyclope, confortablement installé, se fait livrer des tonneaux de vins par une rangée de porteurs se fournissant à la grande vigne voisine.

Là encore, le sujet bachique étonne, il n’est pas courant à la manufacture. Son traitement en frise, littéral en fait une pièce très équilibrée, d’une belle simplicité et d’une inspiration énigmatique.

This lamp confuses.
It does not look like what we are used to see from the Grandjean-Jourdan factory, although it is so familiar. The signature of Masson is however well known, it is that of Emile Masson who realized in particular the silhouettes of characters in black on a false wood background. He goes off the beaten track with a lamp whose form, use and technique are completely new. The lighting system is based on the principle of light diffusion through the open top of this baluster shape. It is completed by the small holes drilled on the body which follow the subject drawn with orange slip on a cream background.

The huge Cyclops, comfortably seated, is having barrels of wine delivered by a row of porters sourcing from the large vineyard next door.

There again, the subject bachique astonishes, it is not current with the manufacture. Its treatment in frieze, literal makes of it a very balanced piece, of a beautiful simplicity and of an enigmatic inspiration.
